Why choose in-home pet euthanasia?
Home euthanasia provides a gentle way to say farewell to your pet in the familiarity of their home, surrounded by your love. Your other pets can also be present, as can any other friends and family members who wish to be there for this emotional goodbye. It allows your family to choose their favorite spot and a more stress-free environment during their final moments. It can bring more peace to your pet and your family due to the reduced stress and anxiety, especially if they dislike car rides or visits to the vet’s office. Being in the comfort of your home provides a more intimate and private experience for your family in a calm atmosphere.
How do I know if it is time?
There will never be a good time to say goodbye. It will always feel like it is either too soon or too late. We will never be ready, that’s for sure, even if our pets are. We sometimes feel guilt or remorse, regardless of the decision we make. Please refer to our Quality-of-Life (QOL) Resources for guidance during this challenging time.
What should I do before the apt? How can I prepare?
Some families choose to take some special pictures of their pet and family before saying goodbye. Some do a bucket list of all their pet’s favorite activities and give their pet special treats. Some families choose to write a letter to their pet, thanking them for the life they shared, reading a poem, or say a prayer to honor their pet. Consider where you think will be the best place for your pet to transition, whether it's on their favorite bed, your couch, or outside in the yard. You can also gather some ink pads and paper if you'd like to get an ink print during your appointment (we provide a clay paw print at the appointment).
How long is the apt?
While most families take about 30-45 minutes, we always schedule one-hour long appointments to ensure that your family do not feel rushed during this difficult time. We will proceed at your pace and honor a family's wishes to move as quickly or slowly as you prefer.
Who is coming to the appointment?
One of our compassionate, Florida-licensed veterinarians will come to your home and perform our services.
What happens at the apt? Do you give sedation first? Is euthanasia painful?
Our doctors will meet and greet your companion, explain the process in detail to your family, and confirm all the required paperwork and aftercare wishes. We will answer any questions you might have and confirm that you are making the best decision for your pet.
After receiving a sedation injection that includes pain and relaxant medication, your pet will begin to drift into a deep sleep, similar to an anesthetic level, while surrounded by your love and possibly while enjoying their favorite treat. Once we confirm that your beloved companion does not feel any more pain or stress, we will administer the 2nd medication (the actual euthanasia medication), which is an overdose of general anesthesia. The actual medicine is not painful as it will put your pet deeper and deeper under anesthesia until the overdose stops all brain function first, then the heart.
Should other pets or children be present?
This is a personal choice, and every family has its unique dynamics. Some prefer to let their children decide, while others prefer to be alone with their pet. Family members can come and go as they wish during the appointments as well. For more information and guidance, please visit: Helping Children Cope
As far as other pets, usually, we encourage them to “decide” on where they want to be (unless they are interfering with your goodbye). Some will ignore and stay away, while others may lie close by. They have good instincts and usually know before we do that their furry companions are not doing well. For more information, please visit: Do Companion Animals Grieve?
How do you bring my pet with you if I choose cremation?
Your pet will be respectfully transported in a basket or a stretcher, covered in a lovely, fluffy blanket.
How do I know it is my pet’s ashes?
Pet Angel Memorial Center uses a state-of-the-art digital scanning system to ensure that you will be receiving your pet’s ashes and only theirs.
Do you work every day? Are you available 24/7/365?
We have a team of doctors who work every day from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. While we do not provide emergency services and are unavailable overnight, we often have same-day appointments available to assist you. Usually, families book within 1-3 days in advance. The sooner you call us to schedule an appointment, the better your chances will be to choose your preferred day and time. If you need immediate care and we can’t be there for you, we encourage you to contact your local veterinarian or an emergency clinic. Your pet's well-being is important to us, and we want to ensure they receive the care they need.
What area do you service? And is there a driving fee?
We service Orlando and the surrounding areas. Please see the map for details. A drive fee up to $100 may be added depending on your location.
Am I allowed to bury my pet?
Please check your city ordinance/HOA to see if there are any restrictions or rules regarding burial.
Is there a cancellation fee?
There is never a cancellation fee. Please note that we sincerely appreciate as much advance notice as possible (ideally at least 6 hours' notice) to help another family in need of our services.
Will my pet insurance cover your services? What are my payment options?
Most pet insurances cover in-home euthanasia services, and some even cover cremation. Please review your pet insurance policy and contact the provider for more information about your pet’s plan. We will be happy to provide any documentation that they require.
We accept cash and credit cards.
We also accept payment plans through Scratchpay and Care Credit.
*Please note that we do not accept personal checks
My pet can get very grumpy with new people coming to the house. How can I make it more peaceful?
Our veterinarians are used to seeing pets with all kinds of moods, due to their distinct personalities or health conditions. Please give us a call so we can discuss your unique situation and the best way to help your family.
What species do you see?
All our veterinarians help dogs and cats. We also have a few of them that help rodents, exotic animals, birds, goats, and reptiles.
